Ian McShane talks about his new movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’, playing the villain, how his character “Blackbeard” fits into the story and working with director Rob Marshall.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens in theaters May 20th, 2011.

Cast: Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin R. McNally, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Geoffrey Rush

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchiseβ€”this time in Disney Digital 3Dβ„’. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s loveβ€”or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

  1. @AzaleaCase WELL SOME PPL LAUGH AT ME COS HE IS OLDER! but hes the hottest pirate EVER except johnny of corce but i mean im just obsession with him and when i see him i just have to take a breath and gaze into his beautiful eyes i just cant help myself but im glad u support this with me im so glad ur a fan!

  2. Ian McShane is soooo smoking sexy and awesome. I hope i get to see him before it's too late(i live in Sweden so you can imagine my hatred of that)

  3. What made Mr. McShane's performance so powerful was that he had done Judas Iscariot in "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977). This made his sarcastic comments on religion all the more powerful: "Do you want to know when I feel closest to God? When I see suffering, pain, and anguish."

In some ways, Mr. McShane really stole this movie.

  4. My mate couldn't believe this was the same Ian Mc Shane from Lovejoy,I had to show him Deadwood and Lovejoy side by side before he admitted it,the man is a legend and has always been an amazing actor.

  5. Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz saved this 4th film. What really impressed me was how Ian McShane brought so much of his former role in 1977 as the tragic and sympathetic Judas Iscariot to his Blackbeard role.
