Bad guys beware — the Saints are marching back into Hollywood for a third round of vigilante vengeance!
Norman Reedus took a few moments away from huntin’ zombies on ‘The Walking Dead’ to confirm that another fan-beloved franchise will be returning to the big screen! In both the original ‘Boondock Saints’ and its sequel, Reedus plays Murphy MacManus, one half of the lovable, foul-mouthed, gun-toting duo that strikes fear into the hearts of Boston mobsters. Now he says he and co-star Sean Patrick Flanery will take on a third installment under the direction of ‘Boondock’ creator Troy Duffy. In a recent interview, Reedus told IFC that he had travelled to LA to meet with Flanery and Duffy and that ‘Boondock Saints III’ is “definitely in the works.” He hasn’t revealed any details, but does promise that, quote “It’s gonna be crazy,” to which we reply, “No, duh.”
The first ‘Boondock Saints’ introduced us to the Irish Catholic MacManus brothers, who receive a calling from God to clean up the streets of Boston by executing members of the Russian Mob with as much graphic violence as they can muster. Although the 1999 film achieved cult status, it was universally panned by critics and made nary a blip at the box office. Still, the rabid ‘Boondock’ fan base and remarkable video sales were enough to spawn a sequel. Unfortunately, while the brothers’ return to Boston in 2009 earned a slightly better critical reception, fans were less enthusiastic and the film was ultimately a financial flop.
